Traveling To Alaska?

Alaska is a beautiful state, and one of the most sparsely populated of the entire United States.  It isn’t all just barren wilderness, however.  There are many things to see and do during a trip to Alaska.  For the intellectually inclined, there is the Heritage Library and Museum, the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, the Alaska Native Heritage Center, and the Oscar Anderson House Museum.  There are several beautiful state parks, including the Chugach State Park and Denali National Park and Preserve.  There is the Columbia Glacier, Mount McKinley, and the Northern Lights.

 Alaskan Activities

Alaska is known for its beautiful wilderness areas and wildlife, as well as the famous Iditarod dogsled race.  Interested in a more active vacation?  There are many rivers in Alaska, including the Kongakut, Canning, Nenana, and Tanana.  River rafting, kayaking, fishing, dog sled rides, cruising, hiking, and even panning for gold are all options.  Hotels, cabins, bed and breakfasts abound in Alaska for visitors, sightseers, and families who wish to escape the daily grind for relaxation and refreshment.  Most people can’t escape shopping on a vacation, and Alaska is well stocked with malls and shopping centers.  Annie Kaill’s is in the Juneau area and offers native jewelry and works of art.  There is the Nugget Mall as well as the Mendenhall Mall, as well as many gift shops, outdoor outfitting retailers, and restaurants throughout the state.  General ecommerce is also an option—the Alaska Mall online has just as many options as any other mall.  For those unable to make the trip in person, using the offshore merchant account option online at the Great Alaska Mall is your second best choice.  If you’re planning to call home at all from an Alaskan wilderness location, having a prepaid phone card account probably wouldn’t hurt either.

 Traveling in Alaska

You may be surprised to find that in spite of a low population density, Alaska does have a thorough interstate system reaching from Anchorage to Fairbanks.  Major highway routes include the George Parks Highway (you’ll take this route for visiting Denali National Park).  The Glenn Highway goes through the beautiful scenery of the Chugach National Forest.  You’ll see glaciers along this route as well.  It is also known for its places for bird watching.  The Broad Pass takes you to Susitna River Valley recreation areas and the Nenana River.  It will also take you by some good fishing locations and rest areas such as East Fork, and Hurricane Gulch Bridge you can book online using there offshore credit card processing option through there websites.

 Packing for Alaska

Depending on what you are planning to do in Alaska and what time of year you will be there (check the weather before you pack!), consider taking the following items.  Bug spray, plenty of layers (vest, waterproof jacket, etc.), umbrella, camera, prepaid phone card account, gloves, binoculars, sun protection gear (sunglasses, hat, sunscreen), first aid kit, comfortable shoes, bathing suit for your hotel pool (or lake).  The main things to remember are layers, insect repellent, and camera—the basic necessities for enjoying your Alaskan adventure.
